Curriculum, Teaching and Learning

Avon Valley Academy is located in the heart of Durrington and we see ourselves as a fully inclusive community school. We are here to serve students of all abilities, backgrounds, and ages from Years 7 to 11.

Our aim is to develop the young people in our care, so that they arrive as enthusiastic children in Year 7, and leave us at the end of Year 11 ready to face the world with confidence and a belief that they can go on and achieve their dreams.

Our students’ lives should be significantly enhanced by their experiences at Avon Valley.  Our goal is to ensure they go on to achieve excellence because of their time with us.

Our Curriculum Model: This explores the values, aims and principles behind our curriculum model. Essentially, these are the means by which we have designed our curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.

Teaching and Learning: The way in which we deliver and develop excellent standards of teaching and learning in every Avon Valley Academy classroom.

Key Stage 3: What our students study, how they study it, and how they are assessed in Years 7-9. 

Key Stage 4: What our students study, how they study it, and how they are assessed in Years 10-11. This includes GCSEs and other Level 2 qualifications. 

Enhanced Provisions: The way in which we deliver our curriculum to students in enhanced provisions.
